It is also used as a catalyst in food processing and as a carrier for flavours and fragrances. It is also used for the removal of impurities and off-flavours from vegetable oils and animal fats.

Applications include the processing of fruit juices, honey, sugar, sweeteners, vegetable oils and fats, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, yeast, maple syrup, etc.
